First graders have been using Dash to practice writing algorithms and adding multiples of 10. In our activity called Number Line Moves, students wrote algorithms for Dash to move forward by multiples of 10. They had to write an equation to show the number line move.

A second activity in this lesson worked on algebraic thinking and writing algorithms. In this activity students were given a starting point and ending point. Students needed to use their math skills to figure out what move forward command would complete their equation.

Students had a lot of fun with this activity and practiced adding multiples of 10. If you would like to try this at home or in your classroom, you can download the recording sheets below. Number Line Moves What's Your Move
